Since the beginning of my association with Luxus Travel & Tours and particularly with Carmen de Jong, she provided me with a first class service. Nothing was too much trouble and she always provided a friendly approach and kept me totally advised of the progress towards our trip in January 26. I felt that I was in very good hands. Today I received all the relavent vouchers and tickets etc and all were excellently explaned. It is my opinion she is a distant asset to,the company. Luxury holiday bookings arranged by Luxus Travel & Tours are always an absolute pleasure! No glitches, no issues whatsoever just seamless arrangements that are on point and leaves one with amazing experience and long-lasting memories! So far i have done the Blue train and Rovos Rail and what an experience it has been, just AMAZING! The Blue Train experience itself was fabulous- the train itself, the ambience on the train, and the service were wonderful. There were a few communication issues that detracted from the experience: (1) the train stop at Kimberly lasted 3 1/2 hours after we were taken back to the train, which was 1 hour after we were told we would be back. There was only one announcement of why we were delayed and that was only after many people complained. We were concerned about a very late arrival in Capetown but in fact still arrived 3 1/2 hours early. (2) there was no communication of what train station the train would arrive at in. Capetown. At arrival the butler said everyone would know which one but our family did not. Our transport person went to the main station and was sure he was in the right place when he saw the Blue Train Lounge and people told him the train just wasn’t in yet. (3) the information on tips on the train conflicted with the pre trip information. Pre trip information said only the butler was to be tipped and in rands. On the train it said staff tips should go in the box in the Club car. We put all of our rands in there and then found out the butler would only get a small portion of that. We gave the butler some American money but not the total recommended amount because we already put so much in the Club car box. Luxus travel provided an exceptional service in arranging travel and keeping us advised where there had been a slight change to scheduled travel. Our tour operating consultant was so helpful and I couldn’t praise her more. Our experience on the Blue train although special could have been better and more up to the level provided by the Tour Operating Consultant, but was let down by some of the staff on the train. Although the quality of the food on the train was amazing our orders were messed up twice meaning we got the wrong food and one morning at breakfast they forgot all about our orders. It was also obvious that some passengers seemed to get preferential treatment which may have been due to advance tipping which although I can understand it doesn’t help the experience when advice had been to tip at the end. We did also have air conditioning issues in our carriage however things were resolved with us being moved to another carriage. I would recommend that to ensure that the experience is up to what you want as a luxury experience would be to invest in the staff as they are the face of the experience and therefore crucial to the success. From Opulence to Elegance, the journey continues…. Leonie arranged my Blue Train experience for November 2025 and it was sure a continuation of my journey of Opulence following my Rovos experience also arranged by Luxus Travel and Tours in 2023. All the arrangements were made and my experience was seamless. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Oyster hotel prior to boarding the train. The service and the ambiance were pure luxury. As I took the blue train to treat my mom to an experience she never had or even dreamed of, with all the arrangements and experience, we can safely say I am the MVD (Most Valued Daughter)🙂. Through Luxus Travel and Tours, I have experienced the finest rail in South Africa.And I must say, the food in the Blue Train is literally gold standard, both the produce and the food.
